The G r e e n M u t t sprung from two completely separate ideas, with a common theme. Both Nick and Cecelia value products made in an environmentally-friendly, sustainable, green manner. However, they feel that by choosing green, one should not have to sacrifice durability or overall aesthetic appeal. This attitude led them to create the Raised Pet Feeders and Palm Wax Candles found on this site.
In 2007, Nick began to admire the sturdy elegance, rarity and beauty of wood wine crates. Fueled by the desire to make a feeder ideal for his arthritic dog, he developed a safe way to turn the wine crates into environmental friendly, ergonomic, and unique feeders. Every last detail was considered- from the use of PolyWhey as a non-toxic alternative to other waterproofing finishing, to the utilization of recycled wine cork to keep the base secure without scratching the floor. He and Cecelia hand-craft each raised pet feeder individually. Lucky has been using his feeder for over two years and it is just as sturdy and beautiful as the day it was made. In the same respects, with hopes to give back to those who provide happiness in their lives, Nick and Cecelia had hopes of finding thoughtful holiday gifts that they could stand behind. Instead of hitting the mall, they created candles that were eco-friendly, sustainable, beautiful and long lasting just like the pet feeders. Their palm wax candles were made at home, in a variety of different scents that filled their families’ and friends’ homes with warm aromas for months and months, without the sooty smoke. When friends of friends began begging them to make more, they realized the candles were not simply a hobby, but that they had created something exceptional.
Nick and Cecelia are Massachusetts natives and UMass Lowell graduate students. With summers free and SoWa (South End Open Market) as inspiration, they were motivated to finally begin their company in Summer of 2010. Combined, they have three dogs: Lucky (an English Pointer Mix), Pearl (a Pug/Min-Pin), and Olive (a Sato with some Wippet). They are proud to have created two incredibly different products with three important things in common: eco-friendly materials, beautiful design, and enduring build
